Nan is a professional naturalist guide with a background in wildlife biology who has been guiding in the Arctic and Subarctic of Alaska and Canada for over 30 years.  (and as of this coming winter, Antarctica).  She is the co-author of Birds of Denali and lives here year-round with her family, which includes a team of sled dogs.

My name is Joe Meyer.  I came north from Kentucky in 2007 to play outside in the wildest mountains I could find and decided to make Alaska my home.  I’m 37 with years of outdoor experience and I am a certified Wilderness First Responder.  I have a background in backpacking, climbing, hiking, canoeing, rafting, biking, fishing, guiding and business.  Since moving to Alaska I’ve learned everything I can about living and playing in her untamed wilderness, and I’ve found that this is a lifelong pursuit.  I’ve climbed numerous unnamed peaks, floated and crossed icy rivers, competed in official and unofficial wilderness races, biked thousands of miles of paved and unpaved roads and trails, climbed frozen waterfalls, trekked across glaciers, and learned to ski Alaska’s back country.  I’ve been a tour guide in Denali National Park, an instructor at the Denali Education Center, and in the winter I became a dog handler where I learned to camp and travel by dog sled in temperatures reaching 40 degrees below zero.
